Surely I am not the only one who has a piece of furniture (or two) passed down from a family member that, once beautiful, now has quite a bit of wear and tear—or simply does not look presentable enough to keep out in the open! Instead, it lies in a corner of a storage closet or basement, waiting until someone takes some time to bring it back to life. Like me, you may have several of these pieces at home and keep thinking you’ll restore them later. One way to bring old furniture back to life is to sand it down and stain it in a different color. This applies to wooden furniture, of course. Even an old and rickety chair can look like new again when coated with a fresh new stain!
Instead of sanding down a wooden piece and staining it, you can also simply sand the furniture and then coat it with a layer of paint. Even though there are a lot of different stain options out there, there are even more paint colors to choose from if you decide to go this route!
Another great way to bring old furniture back to life is to do some reupholstering. If you have an old set of dining room chairs or a couch, for example, it may need some major TLC to look great again; reupholstering would be the perfect solution to this problem! An added bonus when getting new decorative chair webbing is that you literally have endless options. Simply check out your local material or craft store and you’ll be amazed at how many different colors, patterns, and textures you’ll see!
You can also get creative with your furniture revamping. If you are the crafty or DIY type, you can take apart several pieces of furniture and put them together in a new array. Perhaps you can find an entirely new function for your furniture, or make an existing piece more practical to use!
Much the same way that old furniture can use some tweaking to look great once again—so could other things in your life! Your car, for example, maybe something you’ve owned for many years now or acquired from a family that has its own fair share of wear and tear.
