With the advancement in technology so many fast cars have
evolved. Seat belts are one of the most necessary parts of these cars as they
provide safety to the occupants of the vehicle during sudden stop or during the
strong collision of the vehicle. So they are also known as safety devices of an
ideal car. It reduces the cases of death or serious injuries during a traffic
collision by secondary force impacts that results from interior strike hazards
and keep the occupant fixed with the seat and prevent the occupant to being
ejected from the vehicle in a crash or if the car rolls over. So it becomes
very necessary to repair the seat belts in case if it is worn out. There are
many types of seat belts like 2- point, 3- point, 4,5,6- point depends on the
manufacturer’s design.
Repairing of the seat belt depends on the nature of the
problem like torn belt, malfunctioning clasp etc. If it is not possible to
repair the seat belt then one should buy a new one and get it replaced through
a mechanic. While repairing you will need the accessories- Drill, socket and
ratchet set, pocket screwdrivers, Wrenches. While repairing the seat belt, you
need to follow certain steps which are mentioned below.
First of all, check the seat belt to make sure which part
needs to be repaired and which to be replaced. According to i- car website, if
there is an issue with the mounting device, assembly or retractor then the seatbelt webbing must be replaced. Also, if seat belt webbing is torn or bowing then
it should be considered as defective. After that check the seat belts ability
to retract and extend. If there is any issue, note it down so that it can be
resolved after the seat belt inspection is complete. It is explained on the i-
Car website that the problem may be associated with the damaged retractor
twisted webbing, dirt or rubbish buildup. Then after, inspect the mechanical
parts of the seat belt including the buckle, D- rings, retractor, D-ring mounts
and anchors. If there is any damaged or malfunctioning part then replace it in
order for the seat belt work properly. Slide one hand along the seat belt to
reach the casing and remove it with the help of screwdriver. After removing the
casing, remove the mounting bolts that attach the seat belt to the vehicle
using a wrench. Now remove the bolts that secure the shoulder harness &
also remove the bolts at the other end of the shoulder harness. Now insert the
new harness and secure it with new bolts. In the end unbolt the old anchor and
replace it with new anchor. After securing all the parts, put the original
casing back in to place by attaching new mounting bolt. Before driving the
vehicle test the seat belt to make sure that everything works fine for your
safety. In most cases it is advised to replace the entire seat belt to ensure
better mechanism.
